ACC urged to speed up probe regarding ballot papers used in Sept polls

Elections Commission (EC) has called on the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to speed up the probe into the case submitted regarding how M7 Print Private Limited was contracted to print ballot papers used in the September 2018 presidential election.

Speaking on a programme aired on PSM News, spokesperson and member of EC Ahmed Akram said while the commission plans to invite bids for printing ballot papers next week, the fact that ACC is probing a case in connection with how the process was carried out during the September polls, could prove to be problematic.

Describing the case as an issue that is of close proximity to the masses, Akram called on ACC to swiftly conclude the case. However, he assured the case being under investigation poses no legal obstruction in proceeding with the electoral process.

Details regarding how M7 Print was contracted to print ballot papers were brought under the microscope during the Supreme Court hearings held following the September polls where Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) sought to annul the presidential election, in vain.
