No-confidence motion against PG withdrawn

The no-confidence motion against Prosecutor General Aishath Bisham has been withdrawn for the second time.

Parliamentarian Abdulla Ahmed, who filed the motion twice, said he withdrew the motion as the Parliament Committee on Independent Institutions has not reviewed and tabled the motion for voting. He filed the no-confidence motion against Bisham accusing the chief prosecutor of failing to perform her duties without undue influence. He highlighted her failure to exercise powers as an independent state official when several lawmakers were detained.

Meanwhile, opposition Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) has decided to summon Prosecutor General Bisham to Committee on Independent Institutions to question her on the arrest of former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.
