Parliament passes amendment to Pension Act

The parliament has passed the amendment to Pension Act allowing the Pension Fund to be used to finance Hajj pilgrimage. The amendment was passed unanimously by 69 votes in favour.

The amendment to the parliament submitted by Parliamentarian Mohamed Aslam was passed by the Social Affairs Committee without any amendments. The amendment to the Pensions Act was passed after the fourth time it was placed on the agenda.

Parliamentarian Aslam’s proposal states to allow using money from the Retirement Savings Account to finance Hajj Pilgrimage if the applicants meet requirements mentioned in Pension Act. The amendment said the funds can only be utilized for first-time pilgrims. The new amendment stated the procedure to issue the money from the Pension Fund must be implemented within three months after the ratification of bill.

It is a pledge of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih to allow the utilization of pension funds for Hajj pilgrimage.
