Maldivian Ambassador presents credentials to German President

The newly appointed Ambassador of Maldives to Germany Ahmed Latheef has presented Letter of Credence to President of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier in an official ceremony held at the Schloss Bellevue.

During the meeting held after the Credentials Ceremony, President Steinmeier congratulated and welcomed Ambassador Latheef to Germany and expressed his sincere hope to strengthen the bilateral relations between the two countries. Ambassador Latheef thanked the President Steinmeier for the warm welcome and conveyed greetings from President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and the people of Maldives. Ambassador Latheef stated Maldives attaches utmost importance to its relations with Germany and appreciates the continued support and co-operation from Germany.

Ambassador Latheef also highlighted tourism is the largest economic industry in Maldives and Germany has always been a key tourism market, with tourist arrivals amongst the highest from Europe. He assured the commitment of the government and the people of Maldives to further enhance the existing relations with Germany.

Ambassador Latheef is the second resident Ambassador accredited to Germany to represent Maldives, since the establishment of diplomatic relations between both countries on July 5, 1966.
