Minister of Planning and Urban Development Mohamed Aslam has revealed the importance of technically capable people are working in councils when compiling development plans for islands. The planning minister made the remarks at the ceremony held to inaugurate the workshop held to conduct the nation-level training need assessment.
The training need analysis validation workshop is held to identify areas which needs most training to develop human resource and to identify amount of individuals trained in those fields. The validation workshop is held with the participation of technical individuals.
Addressing the ceremony held to inaugurate the workshop, Minister of Planning and Urban Development Mohamed Aslam stated while several authorities and powers are handed over to the councils, in efforts to implement decentralisation, it is crucial that technically capable and skilled people are working in councils to generate plans related to the islands. He expressed it is vital to conduct surveys and develop plans with technical assistance to sustainably conduct projects in the islands.
Likewise, Minister Aslam said it is important that sustainable plans are compiled relevant to the land use plan, municipal works, waste management to identify which areas need technical expertise. Moreover, the minister appealed to monitor and maintain the heritage and culture in the islands. Highlighting traditions such as mat weaving, lacquering and coral stone carving, the planning minister said locals need to be trained in those areas to ensure it is carried to the future generations. He said while 10 years have passed since the planning ministry was abolished, several challenges were faced in planning the development of Maldives when the current administration assumed office on November 17, 2018.
Conducting a national level training need assessment is a pledge included in the 100-day pledge policy of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
