Heritage Minister speaks on the importance of nurturing interest on history

Minister of Arts, Culture and Heritage Yumna Maumoon has stated it is important to nurture interest of the upcoming generations to history and heritage with the use of latest technologies. The heritage minister made the remarks at the ceremony held to mark the National History Day.

Addressing the ceremony, Heritage Minister Dunya Maumoon said it is important Maldivians educate on the history. In this regard, the minister noted educating the future generation on history and unique identity would help create a generation that loves the nation and want to contribute to the betterment.

The heritage minister stated while culture and heritage needs to be preserved for generations to come, it is vital teachers adopt modern techniques such as documentaries and mobile applications to interest the young generation on Maldivian history.

Meanwhile, chief guest of the ceremony, Minister of Health Abdulla Ameen expressed lessons from history must be learnt adding important activities of day to day lives will tomorrow be considered as history.

Furthermore, President of Dhivehi Bahuge Academy Ashraf Ali spoke on preserving history as it is.

National History Day is marked on the death anniversary of the first Maldivian to begin recording Maldivian history, Al Ghazi Thaajuddin.
