It is compulsory to wear helmets from March 10: MTA

Maldives Transport Authority has revealed it is compulsory to wear helmets from March 10 onwards, assuring implementing the rules were not delayed.

Speaking to PSM News, Deputy Director General Mohamed Rafeeu stated implementing the use of helmets were not delayed adding, however, no actions will be taken against people who fail to wear helmets before April 10. In this regard, Mohamed Rafeeu revealed a period of one month is being given to give a chance for riders to find helmets which meet the requirements.

Wearing helmets are mandatory on roads which are allowed to ride at a speed of 30 km/hr, according to transport authority. These speed limits are only allowed on the link road in Addu City and the link road in Laamu Atoll as well on Sina-Male' Bridge.

People who fail to wear helmets will be fined under the regulation. In this regard, a person will be fined USD 32.37 for the first time, USD 48.56 for the second time and USD 64.75 if continued.
