Prosecutor General's Office has revealed charges were raised against 3,500 people in 2018.
A total of 2,534 cases were forwarded to courts from Male' alone, according to the annual report of Prosecutor General's Office. The annual report showed most cases out of a total of 3,534 cases were sent to superior courts. In this regard, while 2,004 cases were forwarded to superior courts 530 cases were sent to magistrate courts.
Moreover, most charges were against usage of dimorphine which amounted to 126 cases. The second most cases were on use of cannabis with 319 cases, while the third most cases were forwarded for robbery which amounted to a total of 98 cases.
Maldives Police Service forwarded over 12,000 cases to Prosecutor General's Office last year.
