Former President Yameen admitted at IGMH

Former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, who is in state custody until end of an ongoing investigation, has been admitted at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH).

Maldives Correctional Service (MCS) has assured that hospitalisation of former the president. However, MCS did not reveal the reason he was admitted. Yameem was brought to IGMH upon his request, according to MCS.

Meanwhile, Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) stated the reason for the admission is unclear, adding the legal team is working to meet Yameen. The former president was admitted and treated at IGMH on February 20 as well.

In an extensive investigation into the money laundering accusations it was revealed the former president received over USD 1.4 million during the presidential campaign alone as funds deposited to his bank account. Yameen is also being charged for providing false information to mislead an investigation.

Criminal Court has ordered to hold Yameen in custody until the end of the investigation. Following the order, he has been imprisoned in Maafushi Prison.
