MRM aims to elevate democracy in Maldives to its pinnacle

Former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom has assured candidates fielded from Maumoon Reform Movement (MRM) will uphold the democratic values of Maldives. The former president made the remarks at a gathering held by MRM to officially launch the campaign for the upcoming parliamentary elections.

Addressing the ceremony at Dharubaaruge convention centre, Maumoon said the Maldivian democratic system consists of many loopholes, making it very incomplete. Maumoon further said in order to restore Maldives to traditional beliefs and societal traditions, the government, parliament and judiciary need to be amended. Maumoon stated one main aim of MRM will be to assist the reform agenda of the government.

Moreover, highlighting it would have been better if all parties in coalition competed together as agreed previously, Maumoon assured to always stay by the government and support its policies.
