DRP says its candidates still have the support from PPM-PNC coalition

Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party (DRP) has revealed candidates fielded from the party were not included in the list of candidates endorsed by the opposition coalition led by Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and People's National Congress (PNC) due to an administrative mistake.

In a press statement, DRP announced President of PPM Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has endorsed 3 candidates fielded by DRP to contest for the parliamentary elections, adding endorsement letters were given on December 6, 2018. In this regard, DRP said Yameen reiterated support for DRP candidates before he was arrested until the end of an ongoing investigation on corruption allegations. Moreover, DRP assured the party will not withdraw from any constituency or support candidates fielded by Jumhoory Party (JP).

PPM and PNC have announced the opposition coalition will field a total of 66 candidates for the upcoming parliamentary elections, including candidates from JP. However, the candidates from DRP were not included in the list endorsed by the opposition coalition.
