HRCM to meet all independent candidates

Human Rights Commission of Maldives (HRCM) has revealed decision to meet all independent candidates contesting in parliamentary elections.

HRCM said the meetings are held to identify how votes are influenced and to ensure the transparency of the elections. Independent candidates contesting in the elections have been asked to meet the commission or send representatives, according to HRCM. The commission revealed detailed will be disclosed in the coming days.

The upcoming parliamentary elections scheduled for April 6 will be contested by 398 candidates, which includes 167 independent candidates and 231 candidates from political parties.

As part of the last preparations, Election Commission of Maldives (ECM) has handed over the printing of ballot papers to a private company and closed the opportunity for candidates to withdraw their candidacy. ECM has also published the final voters' list.
