President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has revealed the first ever social housing project of the current administration will commence in the upcoming two weeks.
Addressing a campaign gathering held by Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) at Hulhumale', President Solih said affordable and adequate housing is the most challenging issue which was identified by all citizens. Noting housing is an issue for citizens living in Male' City, the president stated a suitable solution must be found soon. He criticised the past administrations for reclaiming and developing Hulhumale', disregarding the main objective of the project, adding so far no statistics or surveys show how many residents need housing in the country.
However, President Solih assured once a survey conducted by the administration is concluded, the number of people who need housing and areas which need most housing will be identified. Highlighting the amount which needs to be paid to social housing units are high, the president revealed the first ever housing project of the current administration will commence in the upcoming two weeks. He expressed flats will be made available at a cheaper price in Male' area once the project is concluded.
Furthermore, the president assured every recipient of previous housing projects will be granted flats within the five-year term.
While delivering his presidential address after taking oath of office, President Solih revealed an additional 4-thousand housing units will be developed in Hulhumale'.
