Health Protection Authority (HPA) has established regulation of importing and exporting human organs. HPA included the regulation as a clause in the general regulation of health protection in harbours.
HPA said a dead body or an organ can be imported to Maldives or exported from Maldives with the authorisation to import and export human remains. Meanwhile, carrying human remains without ensuring a permit is attained is prohibited to vessels and aircraft.
If any such incidents occur, fines of not more than 65 US dollars are allocated. Moreover, exporting or importing human remains should be carried out with the assistance of HPA or a registered agent.
Before submitting to get authorisation to import and export human remains, a written document should be submitted to the International Border Health Unit, signed by a medical expert or a medical facility to ensure the medical situation of remains.
