Maldives express appreciation for Pakistan's role in development

Vice President Faisal Naseem has expressed appreciation to the Government of Pakistan for their prominent role in the socio-economic development of Maldives. Vice President Naseem made the remarks at the reception held to mark the 79th anniversary of Pakistan Day.

During the ceremony, the vice president also reassured of the commitment of Maldives to assist Pakistan on all beneficial spheres of engagement bilaterally, regionally and on the wider international arena.

In his speech, Vice President Naseem expressed confidence Maldives and Pakistan will continue to work together, to ensure prosperity, safety and stability of South Asia and the Indian Ocean region, while further strengthening the regional cooperation in South Asia. He also reaffirmed the commitment of Maldives to further enhance the longstanding culture of cooperation between the two countries, to ensure a better quality of life for the citizens of both countries.

Noting Maldives and Pakistan have had formal diplomatic ties for over fifty years, Vice President Naseem underscored the long-tenured friendship between the two countries stems from common culture, shared faith in Islam and mutual respect and understanding.

Pakistan Day is marked on the March 23, to commemorate the passing of the Lahore Resolution on March 23, 1940, which eventually led to the adoption of the first constitution of Pakistan on March 23, 1956.
