Judiciary can be reformed when courts are free from political influence: President

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has stated the judicial sector of Maldives can only be reformed when the courts and judges are free from political influence.

Speaking on a local television channel, President Solih expressed reforming the judiciary has been the most difficult and challenging target included in the first 100-days pledge policy of the administration.

Noting reforming the judiciary is a pledge that still needs to be fulfilled, the president assured his administration will never attempt to influence the courts of law, as was done by previous administrations. He further added the judiciary should be reformed by steps taken from the parliament and noted to achieve the target, the parliament should work with integrity.

The president highlighted the administration would attempt to reform the judiciary after attaining opinions following discussions with the key stakeholders of the sector.
