36 international observers will observe April polls: ECM

Elections Commission of the Maldives (ECM) has revealed 36 international observes would be observing the parliamentary elections scheduled for April 6.

Speaking about preparations for the upcoming elections, ECM revealed four monitors and representatives from nine organisations and four countries would be observing the elections. The observers include monitors and representatives from the Commonwealth and the European Union, according to ECM. The Commonwealth team, headed by former Prime Minister of Jamaica Bruce Golden, is set to arrive in Maldives on March 30.

Teams from the Commonwealth have previously observed several elections held in Maldives, including the 2008 Presidential Election, 2009 Parliamentary Elections, 2013 Presidential Election and 2014 Parliamentary Elections.
