Stakeholders hold discussions on Child Justice Act

United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) Maldives and Advocating the Rights of Children (ARC) have held discussions, with government authorities, independent institutions and non-governmental organisations, on the Child Justice Act submitted to the parliament earlier this month.

Speaking at the meeting with the stakeholders, Managing Director of ARC Murthala Moosa said it is importance for all relevant stakeholders to discuss and recommend amendments to the bill. Murthala said it is important to recognise the steps that needs to be taken to ensure children does not commit or get involved in criminal activities. He said the collective effort of the relevant stakeholders is needed in achieving the target.

UNICEF and ARC will hand over the suggestions to the bill following the extensive discussions.
