Necessary arrangements made to ensure elections are held free and fair: HRCM

Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM) has revealed necessary arrangements have been made to ensure tomorrow’s parliamentary elections are held free and fair.

In a statement, HRCM said its teams have travelled across the country to ensure an appropriate environment is available for voters. After the surveys, HRCM concluded all the relevant authorities have put in efforts to ensure a free and fair poll is held in the country. However, the commission highlighted it has noted isolated attempts by some individuals to influence voters by offering bribes and other favours.

Therefore, HRCM called on all authorities and individuals to ensure the elections take place in a free and fair environment, without any influence and prioritising national interests. The commission added the concerns on the amendments brought to the electoral laws and regulations have been shared with the respective authorities.

On concluding the statement, HRCM noted efforts have been carried by the commission to aware the public on the voting procedures and electoral rights.
