World Health Organisation (WHO) Representative to Maldives Dr. Arvind Mathur has revealed it is important that people are familiarised on the situation of leprosy in the country, to work towards eliminating leprosy altogether. He made the remark at the two-day consultation workshop held from April 16-17 to develop the Zero Leprosy Road Map.
Addressing the closing ceremony of the consultation workshop, Mathur said Maldives have been exemplary in eliminating measles and rubella adding likewise, important efforts and steps must be taken to eliminate leprosy in the nation. He stated one initial step is to familiarize the public on the situation of the leprosy disease in Maldives highlighting the importance of collective effort from all relevant authorities in Male' and in atolls.
The two-day workshop was attended by 23 healthcare professionals from across Maldives to draft the roadmap to achieve zero leprosy target in Maldives. The participants concluded the workshop after formulating a roadmap to reach to a country with no leprosy by 2030.
