India to assist in developing Senahiya as a hospital

Maldives and India have discussed developing Senahiya, a military healthcare facility, to a hospital.

A delegation of the Indian Armed Forces is currently visiting Maldives to hold discussions to improve medical facilities for Maldivian citizens and assistance to Senahiya military hospital in Male' City. The delegation is headed by the Major General Dr. Prashant Bharadwaj from Indian Armed Forces Medical Service. The discussions were focused on transforming Senahiya to a hospital, assistance needed in the health sector of Maldives and mutual issues.

Moreover, the delegation of Indian armed forces met with Minister of Defence Mariya Ahmed Didi. The meeting with the defence minister focused on the changes to be brought to transform Senahiya to a hospital, services to be introduced, new tools and equipment needed as well as developing human resources. The minister also inquired the assistance India will provide in the process.

Furthermore, the delegation met with Chief of Defence Force Major General Abdulla Shamaal and discussed enhancing existing services of Senahiya. The Maldivian defence chief expressed gratitude towards assistance provided Indian Armed Forces in the health sector of the country.

Senahiya initially opened as a healthcare facility for officers and families of Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF), now openly provides healthcare services for all citizens.
