The companies given quotas to take pilgrims to Hajj have signed agreements with Ministry of Islamic Affairs. Islamic ministry granted license to 6 companies to take Maldivians to Hajj pilgrimage.
The agreements were signed amid allegations against the ministry from Sisilfaru Hajj and Umrah Group Private Limited that licenses were given in contrary to regulations. The company claimed the licenses were given without proper evaluation and against the information provided.
Meanwhile, Islamic ministry said 18 companies proposed to take pilgrims from Maldives to Hajj pilgrimage this year. However, proposals from 6 companies were eliminated due to incomplete information. After evaluating the proposals, Islamic ministry granted license to state-owned Maldives Hajj Corporation Limited and 5 private companies. The companies were given license on a point basis comprising of 35% for price, 60% for service and 5% for experience.
Hajj Day falls on August 10, according to the Islamic calendar this year.
