Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) has revealed no patient who was diagnosed with Chikungunya is treated in Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the hospital.
Media Official Ahmed Mumeeth refuted rumours reported in media saying a patient whose health deteriorated is treated in ICU. However, Abdul Mumeeth revealed a child found positive for Chikungunya was shifted to the ward after treating in ICU.
Comments from IGMH come amid media reports generated from a tweet of paediatrician who said two young children are currently under treatment at IGMH for brain infections caused by the Chikungunya virus. Some children are in ICU but none of them are positive for Chikungunya, Mumeeth noted while speaking to PSM News.
So far this year 846 cases of Chikungunya have been reported which is the highest number since the outbreak in 2006, according to statistics. While Chikungunya is caused by mosquitoes, HPA advises to clean and clear areas which mosquito may breed, use repellents and lotions as preventive measures.
