The European Union has reiterated the commitment to strengthen relations with Maldives.
During the ceremony held at the Headquarters of the General Secretariat of the Council for the newly appointed Ambassador of Maldives to the European Union Hassan Sobir to present his Letters of Credence, President of the European Council Donald Tusk expressed confidence the relations will reach new heights during the tenure of the ambassador.
Ambassador Sobir conveyed warm greetings and good wishes from the people and President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. The ambassador further stated European Union was one of the most important development partners for the Maldives and assured during his tenure he would work diligently to further strengthen the existing long-standing friendly ties with European Union.
Ambassador Sobir and Tusk also exchanged views on enhancing the cooperation between the Maldives and European Union on trade, tourism, fisheries and climate change.
