Maldives and Cuba sign MOU on health cooperation

Ministry of Health of Maldives has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Ministry of Public Health of Cuba in the area of Health Cooperation.

The Memorandum of Understanding was signed during a meeting held with Minister of Health of Maldives Abdulla Ameen and Minister of Public Health of Cuba José Angel Portal Miranda on the side-lines of the 72nd Session of the World Health Assembly taking place in Geneva, Switzerland.

The areas of collaboration under the MOU include recruitment of medical doctors and allied health professionals, human resource development of the health sector, testing of pharmaceuticals, food samples, microbiological, chemical and environmental laboratory services

During the meeting, Minister Ameen thanked Cuban Public Health Minister for the continuous support the health sector of Maldives has been receiving from Cuba in capacity building of doctors. He also discussed opportunities for further training programmed for doctors and short-term training and specialisation opportunities for nurses.

Along with Minister Ameen, Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office at Geneva Dr. Hala Hameed, high-level staff of the Ministry of Health of Maldives and Permanent Mission of Maldives to the United Nations Office at Geneva joined the meeting.
