Maldives have voted in favour of the decision of World Health Assembly to strengthen health conditions of Palestinian territory.
At the 72nd World Health Assembly, the decision was supported by 96 member countries while 11 countries including world powers such as the US, the UK, Australia, Canada and Brazil voted against the decision.
During the session, Maldives co-sponsored and voted in favour of the decision to work towards strengthening health conditions of Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem and the occupied Syrian Golan. During the assembly, discussions were held on the appeal made to World Health Organisation (WHO) to strengthen the health conditions in Palestine.
Around 4,000 delegates from 194 member states are attending the week-long conference, which will last until May 28. The world health assembly is the largest meeting with health policy makers, actors drawn from across the world while several decisions regarding global health would be taken during this meeting.
The Maldivian delegation is led by Minister of Health Abdulla Ameen, accompanied by the Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office at Geneva Dr. Hala Hameed and high level staff of the Ministry of Health and Permanent Mission of Maldives to the United Nations Office at Geneva.
