Vice President Faisal Naseem has stated the goal of the administration is to create an inclusive society free of systemic inequities; one that leaves no one behind, and where everyone has an equal start in life to thrive. The vice president made the remarks delivering a statement prior to the start of the session on social outcomes at the Maldives Partnership forum 2019, which is currently ongoing at Kurumba Maldives and will last from June 17-18.
The particular session is devoted to illuminating many of the pressing social issues confronting the Maldives, the strides taken by the administration in attempting to resolve them, and potential areas in which partners can help. Vice President Naseem emphasised in particular that development cannot be measured solely in economic terms, explaining a country's GDP per capita does not always capture its level of social progress and that development policies should treat human welfare as paramount.
The vice president further thanked the partners present at the forum for their eagerness to collaborate with Maldives and take the development agenda forward. He elucidated on many of the pressing issues confronting the administration with regard to social issues.
As expressed in his remarks, the Maldives must do more to ensure gender parity in all spheres, provide adequate and affordable housing to all Maldivian citizens and ensure easy access to quality healthcare. As further expressed by the vice president, the administration fully prioritises the well-being of the Maldivian people in its development policy. He maintained the vision of an island national is for all Maldivian citizens to be able to live dignified and fulfilling lives.
