China announce over 400 training opportunities for Maldives

China announce plans to open over 400 training opportunities for Maldivians this year, under 12 training programmes. The pledge was announced during the Maldives Partnership Forum 2019 held at Kurumba Maldives from June 17-18.

Shedding light on the close bilateral ties that exist between the two countries, Counsellor at the Embassy of China in Maldives Yu Xuan Yon said Maldives plays an important role in the development of South Asia. He also noted the priority China gives to Maldives, regardless of the administration that is in power in either country.

The counsellor also noted the many initiates, in the wings, spearheaded by the current administration to further these ties. In this regard, he said as part of 12 training programmes, the Chinese Government plans to open over 400 training opportunities for Maldivians in the fields of local governance and combatting corruption. He also noted the Sina-Male' Bridge stands as a structure that signifies the ties between the two countries.

Even at present, China is carrying out three major projects in Maldives while four other projects are being carried out with aid from China.
