Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) has received and stores a shipment of newly minted 2 rufiyaa coins.
The new stock was minted, due to a depleting stock of 2 rufiyaa coins, according to the central bank. The new coins were brought to Maldives on December 5 and have been now stored. The new coin was put into rotation in July, 2017.
The new coin was minted with nickel brass surrounding nickel plated steel disk. Unlike the old coin of the same denomination, the new coin is thinner and lighter.
