Mayor of Male' City Sifa Mohamed has revealed Male' City Council is preparing to provide municipal services in Hulhumale'.
Speaking at the Parliamentary Committee on Decentralisation regarding changing municipal services in Hulhumale' under the city council, Mayor Sifa said discussions are underway with President's Office and Housing Development Corporation (HDC). Currently, municipal services in Hulhumale' are provided by HDC.
However, Mayor Sifa expressed Male' City Council would face difficulties in providing municipal services in Hulhumale' due to the shortage of staff and insufficient budget. Therefore, the mayor said the plan is to begin providing the services in Hulhumale' from the start of next year. She also suggested the municipal services could be outsourced with discussions already held with HDC.
HDC has also provided a land plot from Hulhumale' for the city council to provide the municipal services.
