Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) has opened a gallery showcasing mediums of currencies used in the country. The gallery was opened by Minister of Finance Ahmed Ameer at a ceremony held to commemorate the 38th anniversary of MMA.
Speaking at the ceremony, Governor of MMA Ahmed Naseer said gallery would showcase a wide collection of the coins used in the past, as well as the coins and notes currently in circulation. He said the main aim of the gallery is to showcase and inform the public and tourists on Maldivian heritage, with forms of money used in Maldives as far back as the 11th century now on display. He added visitors will be able to gather information on the first bases of money used in Maldives and its evaluation to date.
Former Governor of MMA Qasim Ibrahim also took part in the ceremony.
