The Maldivian delegation participating in Indian Ocean Island Games (IOIG) 2019 has arrived in Mauritius.
A delegation of 116 athletes, officials and media personal departed from Velana International Airport (VIA) on a chartered flight from the national airline, Maldivian. IOIG 2019 will be held in Mauritius from July 19-28.
Maldives will compete in 9 sports during the games, including athletics, badminton, beach volleyball, volleyball, football, basketball, table tennis, swimming and sailing. Furthermore, Maldives will also take part in the Paralympic event.
Maldives aim to win 15 medals in the games, having won a record number of 8 medals in the previous edition held in Réunion Island in 2015.
Maldives is also attempting to host IOIG 2023.
