President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has congratulated the national women’s table tennis team for winning gold medal at the Indian Ocean Island Games (IOIG) held at Mauritius.
In a tweet, President Solih, who was in attendance to watch the Maldives team playing in the final, said he was very happy with the win. He added the team is the pride and joy of the entire country.
Maldives beat Mauritius, the defending champions, 3-2. This was the first gold medal Maldives won in the ongoing games. The medal was presented by President Solih.
In addition to the president, First Lady Fazna Ahmed, Minister of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment Ahmed Mahloof and Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid was in attendance to watch the match.
