Sri Lankan Airlines has commenced flight operations from Maldives to Tokyo, Japan.
Sri Lankan Airlines will operate four weekly flights from Velana International Airport (VIA) to Narita International Airport. The direct flights to Tokyo is expected to increase the number of tourists from Japan. Narita International Airport is the second most frequently used airport in Japan.
Japan is an important tourist market for Maldives, while Japanese tourists are mostly attracted to the dive points of Maldives.
By the end of June, 22,624 tourists arrived to Maldives from Japan, which is an increase of 18% compared to same period of last year, according to statistics of Ministry of Tourism.
