Ministry of Finance has revealed the state received USD 29.75 million as Green Tax in the first six months of this year. The amount is 51.3% of the projected USD 57.989 million to be received as Green Tax for the whole year, according to statistics published by finance ministry.
The highest amount as Green Tax was received from Kaafu Atoll, excluding Male' city. In this regard, USD 10.458 million was received from Kaafu Atoll, which is 35% of the total amount. Meanwhile, according to the statistics, the highest amount as Green Tax was recorded in April which was USD 5.391 million. The least amount as Green Tax was received in June which was USD 3.637 million.
Green Tax is payable by tourists who stay in tourist resorts, tourist hotels, tourist vessels and guest houses. Green Tax is payable at the rate of USD 6 per day of stay from tourist resorts, tourist hotels and tourist vessels, and USD 3 per day of stay from tourist guesthouses.
Maldivians and resident permit holders are not required to pay Green Tax.
