All slots provided by Saudi Arabia for Hajj were occupied: Islamic Minister

Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr. Ahmed Zahir has revealed 2,000 Maldivians are performing Hajj pilgrimage this year.

This year marks the highest number of pilgrims travelling to Saudi Arabia to perform Hajj, according to Islamic ministry.

Speaking to PSM News while at Velana International Airport (VIA) to see off the head of Hajj Mission of Maldives, Islamic Minister Zahir said while Maldives have fully utilised all the slots granted by Saudi Arabia this year, the Islamic ministry is working diligently to monitor the situation of the pilgrims.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih appointed Minister of National Planning and Infrastructure Mohamed Aslam to be in charge of the Maldivian pilgrims who are in Makkah for the Hajj pilgrimage this year.

Every year, the president appoints a head of pilgrims to overlook and provide necessary assistance on behalf of the administration. The Government of Saudi Arabia granted 2,000 slots for Maldivians to perform Hajj this year.
