Development of Fishermen's Park delayed to amend design

Male' City Council has stated the development of Fishermen's Park is delayed as it was required to make amendments to the design of the project.

Approximately three months ago, the local council of the capital city removed all the vehicles parked in the area and closed off the area in an attempt to renovate and redevelop the Fishermen's Park.

When asked about the delay in launching the development project of the park, Deputy Mayor Shamau Shareef said changes were needed to be brought to the design of the project. Shamau stated the design has now been finalised and the project will commence soon. He revealed the project will be concluded in October, despite previously announcing to complete the project in April.

While several facilities would be arranged in the park for tourists, the finalised design does not include keeping food carts in the area. The park will be developed with public toilets, terminal to provide services for cruise liners. The area will also comprise of information desks and parking zones.

The project was contracted to Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC).
