HPA advises to be cautious as Hajj pilgrims begin returning

Health Protection Agency (HPA) has advised to be cautious of increasing cases of flu and viral fever following the return of Hajj pilgrims. If the pilgrims are sick when they return to Maldives, preventive measures must be taken by the pilgrims and their families as it may spread, HPA said.

HPA has asked to seek immediate medical attention if a pilgrim experiences difficulty in breathing and coughs within 14 days of their return to Maldives. HPA also asked pilgrims to notify doctors of their return from Makkah.

Furthermore, HPA appealed to cover the nose and mouth when coughing and sneezing. HPA also highlighted the importance of safely eliminating tissues and handkerchiefs used when down with flu or cold to avoid spread of diseases. Moreover, the authority advised to wash hands frequently and to avoid use of medicine without consulting doctors.

Each year, when pilgrims return from Makkah after their Hajj Pilgrimage, several cases of flu and fever are recorded across the country.
