Project to develop cruise terminal abandoned

Male' City Council has abandoned the attempt to develop a cruise terminal at Fishermen's Park.

A circular released by Male' Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC) said the project to develop a cruise terminal has been abandoned. Instead, MWSC said a toilet facilities would be developed at the park. In the circular, MWSC asked interested parties to purchase bid documents before August 26, while it has been arranged to release the bid documents on August 28.

Further, MWSC revealed the bid meeting would be held on September 1 and interested parties should submit bids on September 5. USD 645 must be paid as a bid security, according to the circular published by MWSC.

Approximately three months ago, the local council of the capital city removed all the vehicles parked in the area and closed off the area in an attempt to renovate and redevelop the Fishermen's Park. When asked about the delay in launching the development project of the park earlier this week, Deputy Mayor Shamau said changes were needed to be brought to the design of the project.

The deputy mayor also stated the design has now been finalised and the project will commence soon. He had revealed the project will be concluded in October, despite previously announcing to complete the project in April.

So far, Male' City Council has not revealed the reasons behind abandoning the project.
