76% of state expenses was for recurrent costs: Finance Ministry

Ministry of Finance has revealed 76 percent of the expenses from the state was for recurrent costs.

The latest statistics published by finance ministry showed the state spent USD 716.494 million as recurrent costs by August 15. The state received a revenue of USD 937.897 million, according to the ministry. However, the state expenditure was recorded at USD 952.098 million, which is an increase of USD 13.975 million compared with the total revenue received by the state,

By August 15, the state received USD 716.494 million as tax revenues, while the revenue from other sources amount to USD 180.737 million. Further, the state received USD 36.793 million as foreign aid during the period.

Meanwhile, USD 232.376 million was spent for development projects, which includes USD 135.553 million spent for Public Sector Investment Programme (PSIP). The statistics also showed USD 44.538 million was used to pay back loans.

The parliament passed a state budget of USD 1.949 billion for 2019. The government has proposed an additional USD 110 million to be included in the state budget for 2019.
