President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has met with councillors and senior institutional representatives of Miladhoo in Noonu Atoll.
During the meeting held at the Secretariat of the Miladhoo Island Council, President Solih emphasised the foremost purpose for meetings such as these is to fully understand the needs of the public, as it is his administration's aim to create progress through inclusive discourse. He further said another primary purpose is to discuss development plans for the future welfare of the islands and help the councillors fully understand the opportunities that will be available through amendments to the Decentralisation Act.
The councillors and institutional representatives discussed details of several concerns and pressing issues such as concerns regarding the progress of the harbour development project, difficulties faced due to space scarcity at the council secretariat and the island school, issues of beach erosion, flooding during the torrential season and waste management. The councillors also relayed several recommendations and requests for future development projects for the island.
Speaking at the meeting, President Solih shared updates and timelines of projects marked within the scope of the 2019 state budget. The president also requested for the council to provide a prioritised list of the most pertinent requirements of their constituents and gave his confidence that these would be taken up with relevant ministries to ensure that they are given due attention.
