Ministry of Foreign Affairs has revealed Maldives will deliver national statements under different Agenda Items, reaffirming its commitment to continue to actively engage with the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC).
Some of the important areas to be highlighted by Maldives in the 42nd Session of the UNHRC include the issue concerning the plight of Rohingya Muslims in Northern Rakhine State as well as the deteriorating situations in Syria and the Occupied Palestinian Territories.
The Maldives delegation will also deliver a statement under the Annual Discussion on Integration of a Gender Perspective, Clustered Interactive Dialogue on Enforced and Involuntary Disappearances and Truth, Justice and Repatriation and Individual Interactive Dialogue with Working Group on Arbitrary Detention, according to the foreign ministry.
The Maldives delegation led by Permanent Representative of Maldives to the United Nations Office at Geneva Hala Hameed, includes Deputy Permanent Representative of Maldives to the United Nations Office at Geneva Hawla Didi, Fist Secretary at Permanent Mission of Maldives to the United Nations Office at Geneva Shahiya Ali Manik and Desk Officer at Ministry of Foreign Affairs Mohamed Shujau.
The 42nd Session of UNHRC will continue for three weeks starting from September 9- 27. The UNHRC is an intergovernmental body within the United Nations System made up of 47 member states, which are responsible for strengthening the promotion and protection of human rights around the globe.
