Crossroads Maldives has contracted seven companies to develop a picnic island in the Greater Male' Region.
The area currently lacks a picnic island and many flock to beaches in Hulhumale' and Villingili, in addition to the reclaimed beaches in Male' City.
President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has pledged to develop a picnic island in the area. The administration has revealed plans to develop a picnic island in Emboodhoo Lagoon at a distance of 15 minutes from the capital city by speed boat, as part of the Crossroads project conducted by Thai-based real estate developer Singha Estate.
The seven contractors for the project include AIMA Construction Company Private Limited, SAS E Construction Private Limited, ALIA Construction Private Limited, HSP Maldives Private Limited, Kurihara Kogyo Company Limited, LSP Group and LAMA Group Private Limited.
Singha Estate explained that different contractors have been assigned for different works of the project. Singha Estate expects Maldivian companies and people to benefit from the project.
The development focuses on creating an environmentally friendly location. The contracted companies acknowledged the benefits the projects and the development of the picnic island for Maldivians.
The picnic island will provide the visitors with an array of facilities, services and activities of modern convenience and leisure ranging from water sports, barbeque area, beach sports, facilities such as family rooms, kids club and changing rooms.
President Solih pledged to develop a picnic island for residents of Male region in the first 100 days of his administration.
In addition to the picnic island, Singha Estate has reclaimed 9 other islands from Emboodhoo Lagoon to develop resorts and other luxury facilities.
