Urgent actions necessary to lessen impact of climate change

Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid has called for swift actions from global powers to lessen the negative impact of climate change on highly exposed island nations.

Speaking to Xinhua News Agency, Minister Shahid highlighted on the negative impacts of climate change on territories, jobs and livelihoods. He highlighted the need for global powers to be proactive along with the attempt of small and more high-risk nations.

The foreign minister commended China's role in climate diplomacy. He further stated China is setting an example to other global powers in tackling climate change. He highlighted clean air and greenery in Beijing in a period of eight years, noting an all-out effort China has put to tackle the devastating effects of climate change.

Maldives is the lowest lying nation, the threat of sea level rise, and ultimate results of sea level rise. At the 74th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), Maldives called for large and small nations to come together and take urgent measures to lessen the destructive effects of climate change.
