Vice President Faisal Naseem has met with members of Nilandhoo Island Council from Faafu Atoll.
During the meeting held at the President’s Office, council members shared concerns about the most pertinent issues and urgent needs faced by the residents of the island, including challenges to providing proper power and sewerage services, financial constraints to renovation and management of mosques and difficulties in waste management. Noting that people seeking a variety of services frequently visit the island every day and emphasising the importance of enhancing transportation services, the council members also requested to inquire about the status of the proposed airport development project in the island.
Speaking at the meeting, the vice president stated the administration would take necessary action after discussing with relevant ministries to address the specific issues and concerns raised by the councillors. He further applauded the council’s initiatives, especially the work to address the issue of single-use plastics, in line with the administration’s policies.
Highlighting the administration’s proposed amendments to the Decentralisation Act, the vice president further urged the council to assume more responsibilities with proactive steps to address the issues and concerns of the residents of the island.
