Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid has expressed gratitude to the government and people of China for their continued support and generous assistance provided for the development of Maldives.
In his message of felicitations Minister of Foreign Affairs of China Wang Yi, on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Founding of the People's Republic of China, Minister Shahid extended sincerest and warmest congratulations to the government and the people of China.
In his message, the minister said the 70th anniversary of the establishment of the People's Republic is a monumental event in China's 5-thousand-year history. Shahid noted China have witnessed inclusive economic and social development at a rate unparalleled at any time or anywhere in the world during the last seven decades, adding the founding of the People's Republic also helped to bring significant shift in global political landscape. He highlighted the principles of equality, justice and solidarity among the countries of the global South are values that China champions at multilateral fora, adding Maldives will always be your partner in promoting these values.
The foreign minister expressed China have been and continues to be a close development partner of the Maldives, adding in two weeks' time, Maldives and China will be celebrating 47 years of diplomatic relations.
On conclusion, the minister conveyed good wishes for the continued progress and prosperity of the friendly people of China.
