Vice President Faisal Naseem has met with stakeholders from several government authorities regarding fire safety standards in Greater Malé.
During the meeting held at the President's Office, Vice President Naseem discussed measures to prevent the repetition of tragic fire incidents. The discussions focused on the relocation of fuel and chemical storages away from residential areas and standardisation of the handling and storage of highly flammable goods. Stakeholders discussed methods to immediately implementing safer and more efficient delivery of fuel on fuel bowsers.
Speaking at the meeting, the vice president urged stakeholders to adhere to the safety guidelines of the Fire and Rescue Service from the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF). Stakeholders briefed the vice president about ongoing efforts to follow fire safety standards and deliberated on the challenges to placing the measures.
The meeting was attended by senior officials from the Ministry of Defence, Ministry of National Planning and Infrastructure, Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation, State Electric Company Limited (STELCO), State Trading Organisation (STO), Fuel Supplies Maldives (FSM), Malé City Council, Maldives Police Service (MPS), and MNDF.
