Education Ministry to digitalise text books

Minister of Education Dr Aishath Ali has revealed plans to launch a pilot project to digitalise text books.

Speaking at the Parliamentary Committee on National Development and Heritage, Minister Aishath Ali highlighted text books in some grades have been digitalised, adding plans are in motion to implement the digitalisation in a better way next year.

Answering questions posed by the committee, the minister said although the previous administration initiated the use of tablets, there were no plans to implement its use in teaching. She added the students have been instructed to use the tablets in revising their studies.

Noting the bad internet connects in some islands, the education minister revealed tablets are not in use in such islands. The minister said efforts are underway to improve the internet connection in the schools with discussions held with the national telecommunication company, Dhiraagu. She added a survey has been launched to identify the difficulties faced in using tablets in teaching.

As part of the efforts to digitalise the education system in Maldives, the previous administration purchased and distributed over 70,000 tablets for the students.
