MTCC to reclaim land for 3 islands for resort development

Centara Hotels and Resorts has contracted Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) to reclaim land for 3 islands in Kaafu Atoll that are to be developed as high-end tourist resorts.

The contract was signed by CEO of Centara Hotels and Resorts Thirayuth Chirathivat and CEO of MTCC Hassan Shah at a ceremony held at Centara Head Office in Bangkok, Thailand.

As part of the agreement signed with the Thailand hospitality management and holding company, MTCC will reclaim 21 hectares of land from a lagoon in Kaafu Atoll. Additionally, the project includes shore protection and the construction of a breakwater. The project is expected to be completed within 300 days.

Centara already owns and operates two resorts in Maldives.

Maldives estimate to open 20 new resorts this year, according to Ministry of Tourism.
