Ministry of National Planning and Infrastructure has contracted Boskalis Westminster Contracting Limited to conduct the reclamation project of Gulhifalhu for USD 53 million.
The Dutch firm was awarded the project to reclaim 6 million cubic metres of reclamation and establish a 4-kilometre seawall as part of the first phase of moving Male’ Commercial Port to Gulhifalhu. The administration aims to solve congestion and traffic in the capital by relocating the commercial harbour to Gulhifalhu.
Boskalis, which has carried several mega reclamation and infrastructure development projects worldwide, has also conducted several projects in Maldives and had reclaimed a total of 198 hectares of land in Maldives in 10 inhabited islands from 2007 to 2015.
The Dutch firm was also the first company to have reclaimed land in Maldives using Trailing Suction Hopper Dredger.
